The W.E.B. DuBois Learning Center
Tamara Clark Sykes
Meet the W.E.B. DuBois Learning Center's Excecutive Director, Tamara Clark Sykes. Director of the nonprofit, devoted to leading the organization to improve the academic performance of under-served communities through educational services and state of the art technology.
“As we approach 50 years of service to the community, we are excited about the possibilities we have to continue to impact young people and families” said Terri Barnes, Board Chair of The W.E.B. DuBois Learning Center. “Tamara has the demonstrated experience, skills and passion needed to help guide this organization into the future.”
With more than 25 years of experience, in both small business and nonprofit work, Sykes has developed a strong bench of executive level skills that will add immediate value and benefit to the organization. Sykes has demonstrated experience in general business operations, strategic planning and development, building operations and organizational effectiveness. Sykes is an accomplished leader with a particular commitment to children and education - both of which are clearly demonstrated through her volunteer service and work.
Sykes has served as Vice President of Operations for The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City, Managing Partner of Digital Ocean Corporation (an IT firm that she founded), and as an Operations Manager for Proctor & Gamble. Throughout her professional career, Sykes has been responsible for the management of operational budgets of more than $15MM, 200 + employees, and thousands of volunteers. In addition to her employment history, she has held numerous volunteer leadership positions with local chapters of Girl Scouts of America, Jack and Jill of America, and with the public, private, and charter secondary schools attended by her children. Sykes was also appointed by National Presidents of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and The Links, Incorporated to Chair National Committees. As a proud alumna of Tuskegee University, she has consistently lent her leadership skills as a national reunion class agent leading fellow classmates to support the University.
As we approach our 46th year of service, we are excited to have Tamara Clark Sykes on our team!
